På Historiska museet i Stockholm finns en vävsömsdyna som är daterad till medeltid eller möjligen 1500-tal. Den har ett mönster med en helt annan uppbyggnad än mönstret på dynan från Gotland. Ett rutmönster inramar något som kan vara ett livsträd med motställda fåglar. På museets hemsida finns bilder. Dynan är 60 x 60 cm. Bottentyget är av samma typ som den gotländska dynan.

Jag ritade av mönstret från bilderna och prövade att brodera på ett tätare ylletyg. Förhållandet i täthet mellan varp och inslag är ungefär det samma som på originaldynan. Beroende på vilket håll man lägger stygnen får fåglarna olika utseende.

Efter att ha provsytt fåglarna satte jag igång att brodera en hel dyna, men med det här tyget blir dynan ca 27 x 27 cm. Först använde jag en liten rund ram, men i Kuressaare på Ösel hittade jag en bra broderbåge.

In the Historical museum in Stockholm there is a cushion, sewn with pattern darning. It is dated to medieval time or perhaps to the 16th century. The pattern is quite different from the Gotlandic cushion. Within a fram-work there is something that can be seen as a tree of life with birds. You find pictures HERE. The cushion is 60 x 60 cm. The fabric is as same as the cushion from Gotland.

I made a pattern from the photos and made a sample on a worsted fabric with the same proportions of the warp and weft as on the original cushion. The birds will be different, depending which way the stiches are made.

Now I am embrodering the whole cushion, but with this fabric it will be ca 27 x 27 cm. At first I used a little round frame, but in Kuressaare on Ösel I found a good embroidery frame.
